So here’s the photo reference I’ll be using for my next studio painting. This photo was taken by my father while camping at Idyllwild , California. It reminds me of Ivan Shishkin’s most famous painting “Morning in the Pine Tree Forest”. So, I’ve decided to do a tribute and call it “Sunset at Pine Tree Forest”. And yes, there will be bears!
I plan on doing a lot of preparation for this painting and will document my progress in this blog. I’ve found that the amount of preparation is directly related to the end result. I plan on doing:
- Sketches and value comps
- Shape design study
- Gouache color study
- Trip to the zoo
- Bear comps
- Final painting
